EM 235 Emergency Planning Course - Intermediate

The EM 235 Emergency Planning - Intermediate is the second course presenting a planning process that is applicable to all four phases of comprehensive emergency management.

Responsibility for alleviating suffering and damage resulting from natural disasters and other events that threaten communities rests with State and local governments. The elected leadership in each jurisdiction (i.e., town, city, county or parish, and State) is legally responsible for ensuring that necessary and appropriate actions are taken to protect people, property, and the environment from the consequences of emergencies that threaten their safety.

To ensure that necessary and appropriate actions are taken, by the proper personnel and at the proper time, requires a coordinated effort to develop an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) that enables the jurisdiction to respond effectively and efficiently to an emergency event.

The purpose of this course is to provide members of a jurisdiction's planning team with basic information about key planning factors that affect its ability to respond and with tools to help them make the best decisions possible for each of those factors. This course does not provide every planning factor and every tool that can possibly be used in planning, but it does provide tools for planning factors that are crucial to every jurisdiction in the country.

This course was released in 1997. Some minor changes are made to the course. The course is orientated to the individual learner whereas the original course is delivered in a classroom setting.

EM 235_ Basic is the 1990 version of the G-235 Emergency Planning Course. This course is a stand-alone course which contains introductory information about emergency planning. This is a separate enrollment.

EM235_Intermediate is the 1997 update of G-235 Emergency Planning Course. The information included in this course is much broader and detailed with activities that train the user to create and update and emergency plan. It includes three components.

  • EM 235_SI is the 1997 version of G-235 The Emergency Planning Process - Self-Instruction. There are seven modules to this course. Its completion is recommended before completing Tools for Emergency Planning and the Workshop.
  • EM 235_TB is the 1997 version of G-235 Tools for Emergency Planning. This module has five modules and four appendices.
  • EM 235_WS is the 1997 version of G-235 Emergency Planning Workshop. This is a hands-on guided course designed for a classroom setting. The activities and worksheets are valuable to any planner developing their emergency plan. There are nine modules and two appendices to this workshop.

Six files make up this course. File sizes are less than 1.1 megabyte each for the benefit of low bandwidth (14.4 and 28.8 modem) users. The naming protocol is EM235_tb.exe, EM235_si.exe, EM235_1-7.exe, EM235_8-9.exe, EM235_appA.exe, EM235_appB.exe. Graphics may not be optimum in these documents due to originals and file size considerations.

Only minor modifications and no changes to the subject matter in converting these course materials to online format..

There are two Final Exams. The first is based on Self-Instruction manual Modules 1-7 (41 questions). The second covers Tools for Emergency Planning Modules 1-4 in (13 questions) and in the Workshop, Modules 8 and 9 (10 questions).

Upon receiving your paid registration, we will send you the password to open these. We recommend you print out the pages as you need them and keep them as a paper reference.

The test is taken online. When you pass the test, you will be mailed a certificate of completion.
